Inspiration and Encouragement to Deepen Your

Home Yoga Practice

About Practice Tip of the Week:

Practice Tip of the Week is detailed, friendly and encouraging aid to Iyengar yoga practice. It arrives via email every Friday afternoon with suggestions that will, week by week, lead you to a fuller, more satisfying home practice.

Going to class is wonderful. We all need to be seen through someone else's eyes, and to learn new poses and new ways of practicing. But until we practice at home, we never really experience the true power of yoga.

With a home practice, you'll find yourself making more progress in class, even in your most challenging poses. Better still, once a day, every day, you’ll deepen your connection with yourself. When you practice by yourself, you walk toward your own inner teacher.

What to expect:

Some tips suggest ways to work with poses, others show preparations for poses, or mini practices to slip into your day. Some provide strategies for approaching practice, and keeping it fresh. And others introduce the philosophical concepts that distinguish asana practice from stretching, or doing strength training.

Each Practice Tip comes with a list of the benefits of doing the practice, a suggestion for how to sequence the tip as part of a larger practice, and ways to adapt the tip to for any physical limitations you may be working with.

How to use Practice Tip of the Week:

If you are new to yoga, a five-minute daily practice is a worthy goal. Take the week’s Practice Tip, spend five minutes a day with it every day for that week, and you’ll find that your desire to practice, and your time for practice both mysteriously expand.

If you already have a home practice, but have been searching for ways to make your practice more consistent or more meaningful, Practice Tips can support and inspire you.

Check the “Sequencing” paragraph for suggestions on integrating the week’s tip into your practice.

Even if a particular week’s tip doesn’t appeal to you, just finding it in your inbox might remind you of your intention to practice, and get you back on the mat.
